For Christmas this year, I received not one but two copies of Do the Right Thing by Mike Huckabee — one from my mother-in-law and another from a friend.
The irony of this is I attempted to purchase the book for my mother, and it was sold out (though I noticed this particular popular bookstore was well stocked with multiple books on Obama, as well as many liberal authors).
Since I’m in the middle of reading four different books, I’m only on chapter four, but already I’m convinced this is one of the best books I have ever read, mostly because of one profound paragraph.
Chapter four is titled “Politically Homeless.” Huckabee talks about “faith voters” who were “forced out of their political homes and onto the symbolic streets.”
On page 50, the second paragraph states: “To force a religious belief on another — insofar as that’s even possible — violates the most basic concept of the Judeo-Christian worldview that God loves us out of His own volition and seeks a relationship with us. A relationship can be valid only when all parties agree to it. There is no ‘love’ involved with a forced relationship. That’s the logic of rape! No sane person would ever characterize such a violent violation of another person in both body and spirit as the basis of love. Therefore, true faith is predicated on the notion that one must not force-feed his or her faith on another and consider that authentic.”
Love it!! There’s so much to mentally munch on in that paragraph. I was so enlightened after reading it that I read it over about 10 times. Huckabee is an excellent communicator, and I truly believe he could surpass the “Great Communicator” when it comes to being a great American political leader.
He also mentions in chapter four how many of the great leaders of the Christian conservative movement have recently died. America needs people to fill the void left by the passing of Jerry Falwell, D. James Kennedy and Bill Bright.
I’m praying that Mike Huckabee will be one to carry this important mantle in our country.

Can I borrow that book when you’re through? He’s the smiling, articulate spokesman religious conservatives needed.
