“As the clock ticks toward midnight and a shutdown of the federal government, President Obama and congressional leaders still lack a budget deal — and still dispute the major causes of the impasse that threatens to disrupt government operations.
“The government runs out of money at midnight unless Obama, Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., can resolve differences that appear to be narrow but intense.
“Reid said this morning that Democrats have agreed to $38 billion in budget cuts, but the big hold-up is Republican insistence on the inclusion of non-budget items in a final bill — particularly a proposal to de-fund Planned Parenthood because of abortion services. ‘This all deals with women’s health,’ Reid said.”
Us: Who is being ideological now, Sen. Reid? Taxpayers ought not be forced to fund the nation’s largest abortion provider. Even if you disagree, can we not see this is as an extraneous expenditure at this fiscally tight point?
Update: The Politico said of the deal, “The budget agreement reached late Friday night will not defund either the health care law or Planned Parenthood, but the Senate has agreed to take separate votes on both measures.” It’s hard to see how this is not a huge victory for Planned Parenthood. All the pressure to do the right thing is off. Go figure.
Recently, I was involved in a short discussion on Twitter about my pro-life apologetic after lamenting the Obama White House’s decision to strip away from the conscience clause protections enacted under President Bush. It was a great, honest discussion, but, Twitter being what it is, I decided to write up a basic summary of my pro-life position here. What follows, then, are the highlights of one plank of the pro-life argument. Read the rest of this entry »
“New York (CNN) — A New York billboard that focused exclusively on African-American abortion rates was taken down because of concerns for public safety, said Hal Kilshaw, spokesperson for Louisiana-based Lamar Advertising, on Thursday. The billboard was erected by group opposed to abortions.”
“Will a federal emergency-medical-treatment law be rewritten to mandate that all hospitals provide abortions?”
Planned Parenthood, the world’s largest abortion provider, is offering for Christmas presents “the gift of life” certificates. These certificates allow recipients access to services offered at Planned Parenthood, which includes abortions.
Charmaine Yost of Americans United for Life offers this commentary: “Planned Parenthood’s fumbling fund raising efforts reveal a fundamental disconnect with the heart of most Americans, where the majority of us embrace unborn children in the womb as a gift, wrapped and hidden until the birth-day of celebration. As exciting as opening Christmas gifts can be, nothing compares to the joy a mother feels when she meets her child for the first time.
“But as always the real victims of Planned Parenthood’s crass marketing will be women,” said Yost. ”You have to wonder if those women who find an abortion gift certificate waiting for them on Christmas morning might think that Santa simply ran out of lumps of coal.”
Recently, Sanctus Real lead singer Matt Hammitt and his wife shared with the world the news that their unborn son had an underdeveloped heart. Matt has shared updates on Bowen since then via twitter, as well as on radio stations like K-LOVE. A listener heard Matt’s story, and called in with one of his own.
The caller shared how he and his wife were expecting, just like the Hammitts, and received word that there was a problem with their unborn son’s heart. The doctor told them that if the baby survives to term, that he wouldn’t live long after birth, and advised that the couple abort their baby. They refused, and seventeen years and a few surgeries later, their boy is alive and well, having recently received a transplant of a healthy heart.
Obviously, not every story has such a happy ending. Sometimes, the doctor is right and the baby dies, but as long as there’s hope, we have no right to end that child’s life preemptively. Every life is precious, and every life deserves a chance.
This new documentary called, “Blood Money” attempts to expose Planned Parenthood.
Headline: ‘Oklahoma’s abortion law stays blocked for now’
“Oklahoma County District Judge Noma Gurich agreed to a temporary injunction Monday preventing enforcement of the state’s new abortion law.” Read more.
In case it’s not obvious, we think this is a bad decision for numerous reasons and that life is on the line.
“About 80 unborn babies conceived by in vitro fertilization (IVF) are eliminated by abortion each year in Great Britain, according to a new report.”

WASHINGTON (BP)–You can’t keep a good state down. Proving that its state motto, “Equality Before the Law,” truly applies to all its residents, Nebraska has again stepped up to take the lead against the horrific practice of late-term abortion and its main proponent, LeRoy Carhart.
By the overwhelming margin of 44-5, Nebraska’s unicameral legislature passed a bill April 13 that bans abortions after 20 weeks of gestation, except when the abortion would preserve the life or physical health of the mother. Gov. Dave Heineman signed the bill into law that same day.

News: Oklahoma Legislature overrides third abortion veto
http://www.newsok.com/multimedia/video/87997947001
From Oklahomans for Life’s email blast:
Urgent Need for Help:
Abortion-Reporting Bill Vetoed by Governor,
Please Ask Legislators to Override Veto
Governor Brad Henry today vetoed HB 3284, which provides for reporting of abortions and abortion complications to the Health Department.
Please send an email immediately which will reach pro-life Representatives and Senators, asking them to override the veto.
Your message to prolifelegislators@okforlife.org will reach members of the House and Senate who have consistently voted pro-life this session. Please thank them for their pro-life support and urge them to override the veto.
An appropriate message would be: Thank you for your pro-life support this session. Please override the veto of the Abortion Reporting bill.
With countless unborn children being killed across Oklahoma on a daily basis, requiring the abortion industry to report what they’re doing is a very small thing to ask.
One email to prolifelegislators@okforlife.org will reach the pro-life legislators who can override this pro-abortion veto. Please urge them to override the veto.
Thank you for being the voice of the voiceless unborn child.
Tony Lauinger
State Chairman
The other day, we were quick to praise Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry (D) for approving pro-life legislation.
Now comes the news today that “Henry vetoes two pro-life bills on Friday.
With due respect to the Governor, your reasons for the vetoes are paper thin and do not err on the side of life. Here’s to hoping you’ll see the light, so more babies can see the light of day.
Update: The Legislature overrides Henry’s vetoes!

Nebraska First to Allow Women to Sue for Psychological Injury After Abortion
“Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry has signed three pro-life bills into law.”
“Henry, a Democrat, endorsed measures April 5 that prohibit sex-selection abortions, regulate the use of the abortion drug RU 486 and provide conscience protections for pro-life, health-care workers, according to The Daily Oklahoman.”
At Pilgrims Progress, we’ve been no stranger to holding the Governor’s feet to the fire on this issue, and it’s nice to read some positive national coverage here.
According to the Telegraph, conservative leader “David Cameron has pledged to review Britain’s abortion laws and stop assisted suicide in moves designed to place religious issues at the forefront of the Conservative election campaign.”
“The Conservative leader said that he would personally favour reducing the abortion limit from 24 weeks to 20 or 22 weeks.”

In this recent TV interview, when asked about the Executive Order related to abortion and the health care bill, self-proclaimed pro-life Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak says:
“ The following is a primer on abortion laws in American history:
American Colonies
U.S. adopts English Common Law, which forbade abortion. The procedure was ruled a misdemeanor if performed prior to quickening (feeling life) and a felony if performed after quickening.
Early 1800s
Discovery that life begins at fertilization and not when the mother ‘felt life.’
1860 Eight-five percent of the then-present U.S. states had laws that made all abortions a felony.
1869
British Parliament passes the Offenses Against the Persons Act, making all abortions a felony.
1967
Colorado and California legalize abortion.
June 1970
New York becomes the 16th state to allow abortion by passing the first Abortion on Demand Law, which legalized a 24-week limit. Other states’ laws were very restrictive, allowing abortion only in instances of rape, incest, danger to mother and suspected fetal handicap.
Jan. 22, 1973
The U.S. Supreme Court strikes down all state abortion laws and legalizes abortion in all 50 states for the full nine months of pregnancy in the Roe v. Wade decision. The right to abortion falls under the right to privacy, which the court deemed “broad enough to encompass a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy.” Late-term abortions need the approval of a licensed physician to judge the procedure necessary to protect the mother’s health.
